Illumina is a permanent light, sound and projection installation at Kingfisher Bay Resort on K’gari, set within a natural amphitheatre around the resort's lagoon. Its debut show, Return to Sky, was created by Bruce Ramus as a response to the island's landscape and its continual cycles of change.
Working with long-time collaborators RAMUS, we were involved throughout the technical and creative development of the installation. Our CORE control system provides complete show automation, guiding operators through pre-show testing before coordinating the full experience consistently each night.
Commissioning took place within the landscape itself, with the show continually refined to work with the trees, water, sky and changing conditions rather than overpower them. This involved both technical integration and detailed creative adjustment on site.
Illumina has been conceived as an ongoing platform, allowing new shows and stories to be developed for the installation over time.
